Dr. Meir Lampitt, a former pediatrician, was sentenced to 12 months in prison after he was convicted of severe acts he committed against minors.
The 68-year-old doctor was also known for many years in the sizeable ultra-orthodox community in Tsfat, where he, among other things, treated as part of his expertise as a diagnostician and therapist for attention disorders in children and teenagers, and among the residents there was a shock when the suspicions against him became known.
The acts were discovered following a report by Avi Dubitzky, who corresponded with the doctor on the Internet while posing as a 15-year-old boy, that Lampit had convinced him to meet for illicit purposes.
When he arrived at the appointed meeting place, the doctor was arrested by police officers who had ambushed him there. The police then took testimonies from two injured boys, but he denied this and even claimed that he did not know their young ages.
Today, as mentioned, he was sentenced to a year in prison in a plea agreement, and Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court Judge Noa Tabor reasoned: “The actions constitute a violation of basic values; protection of the bodies of human beings – and even more so minors, when the age gap cries out for exploitation: 50 years separates the accused and their attacker.”
